skunjrat (pronounced scunge-rat) is a real creature that is said to live in the sewer systems of southern ontario. not much is known about the creature prior to its recent appearances in several small rave scenes throughout ontario. the local urban ledgend of skunjrat tells stories of the being crawling out of sewer grates and stealing people's phones, it was apparently addicted to lithium and would eat phone batteries and small electronic parts. this portion of the ledgend, however, was proven wrong by researchers. skunjrat was likely just pawning off the stolen phones or keeping them to play games on. researchers were able to track down a past living environment of skunjrat: a small cave nestled in the side of the hamilton mountain. in it they identified animal bones belonging to small rodents as well as a small dog. there was a tag on the ground near the dog skeleton that was traced back to a lost dog in the area. owners were devistated. skunjrat does not seem to remain in a living location for long, often no more than a week. this makes finding information on the beast very difficult. it leaves no footprints in all cases of reports on a sighting, as if it simply was never there. a few instaces of hoaxes have appeared around the Hamilton area over the years, one big instance being a viral video that surfaced in late 2021 of a rat-like humanoid creature gnawing on an electronic toaster before noticing the camera and scampering off. the video was proven as a prank video filmed by a group of young kids for the sake of causing disturbances on social media. no confirmed images of skunjrat exist at the moment.
